- Hi All,
-
- I have a 386SX 25 with 5Mb ram with no math co in my
- A4000/040. I want to accelerate the BB to a 486 and
- have seen some discussion in this group on that
- subject. I'm looking for some advice.
-
- Been thinking of going to the Evergreen 486 50, I can
- get this chip for about $100 US. But there is also a
- Evergreen 486 75 which goes for about $260 US. Is the
- 75 usable in a BB and does anyone know if it is that
- much faster to warrant the extra $200 or so. Seems
- kind of strange that a 50mhz chip is $100 and the 75
- is almost 3 times that.
-
- I know there are about 3 or 4 different 386 to 486 devices
- out there (Evergreen Cyrix to name two). Anyone have any
- idea if one type is any better or worse than any other
- in regards to working with an Amiga bridgeboard.
-
- Also, I'm thinking of getting and enhanced IDE (EIDE)
- controller to run a seperate harddrive for the BB
- (currently using a partition on the Amiga's harddrive).
- Any thoughts on how well (or not) this will work. I would
- like to use a controller with a ECP and/or EPP port to
- attach "backpack" devices to (like a cd-rom with built
- in sound board).
-
- Any ideas on where to get ram chips for the BB. I would
- like to expand it to the full 8MP. Speaking of ram, is
- anyone using or have experience with any software ram
- doublers that they have working in some type of BB setup.
-
- Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions.
-
- I will be checking this news group so you can respond here
- or if you like, e-mail me directly at dldeeds@micron.net.
